First Coast Service Options, Inc., the current Medicare Administrative Contractor for Jurisdiction 9, which includese Puerto Rico, the U. S. Virging Islands and Florida, has issued the following update:

According to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) information security policy chapter 4.15.9, service providers shall be prohibited from outsourcing any system function overseas, unless explicitly authorized, in writing, by the CMS Chief information officer (CIO) or his/her designated representatives, with concurrence from CMS’ personnel security department. System functions include the transmission of electronic claims, receipt of electronic remittance advice or the access to any system for beneficiary and/or eligibility information.
